Stephen Kostyo is an Impact Fellow at the Federation of American Scientists. He previously served as a Senior Policy Advisor at the Learning Policy Institute and Legislative Assistant for Congressman Tim Ryan from Ohio. He previously taught middle and high school math and science and has been an Adjunct Instructor at American University since 2019. Kostyo received a B.S. in Quantitative Economics and a B.A. in Political Science with honors at Miami University.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics’ August 2023 pulse panel, 60% of public schools were utilizing a “community school” or “wraparound services model” at the start of this school year—up from 45% last year.
If education policymakers are committed to supporting the “whole child,” then they need more measurements than just test scores or graduation rates.
