Maggie Beiting-Parrish is an AI and Data Science Impact Fellow in the Department of Education where she uses text analysis to improve automated scoring of student learning products. She was an NYC Teaching Fellow as well as researcher and curriculum developer for special populations. She has experience in qualitative and quantitative research with a focus on psychometrics, machine learning, and equity in test design and analysis. She received her PhD in Educational Psychology – Quantitative Methods from CUNY Graduate Center.
For the United States to continue to be a competitive global power in technology and innovation, we need a workforce that understands how to use, apply, and develop new innovations using AI and Data Science.
The Department of Education must provide guidance for education decision-makers to evaluate AI solutions during procurement, to support EdTech developers to mitigate bias in their applications, and to develop new fairness methods.
