Dr. Alondra Nelson
An academic, policy adviser, and writer, Dr. Alondra Nelson was instrumental in creating the Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights, a set of five principles and associated practices to help guide the design, use, and deployment of automated systems and protect the rights of the American public in the age of artificial intelligence.
From 2021 to 2023 Dr. Nelson served as deputy assistant to President Joe Biden and principal deputy director for science and society of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). There, she stepped in as acting director of OSTP for a consequential period, during which time she was instrumental in creating the Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights, a set of five principles and associated practices to help guide the design, use, and deployment of automated systems and protect the rights of the American public in the age of artificial intelligence. This is the cornerstone of the Biden-Harris Administration’s AI governance strategy.
