Commercialization of new energy technologies is not happening at the rate needed to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Complicated and risk-averse federal processes, inefficient feedback loops between the public and private sector, and a lack of capacity within federal energy initiatives must be addressed. Working within the executive and legislative branches that govern DOE, FAS is helping to develop more effective and flexible hiring pathways, innovative and progressive research and development practices, and faster development and deployment of new energy technologies – all in service of more effective and more equitable implementation of energy policy.
