Evidence-Based Policy
The 2018 Evidence Act launched a new era in federal evidence-based policy, requiring agencies to prioritize the curation and use of research evidence in crafting and implementing policy. Momentum and support for evidence-based policy has continued in the years since, formalizing it as a vital, bipartisan goal of the U.S. government.
But both established and new approaches to federal evidence use — including living evidence synthesis, public engagement, and expert advising — face obstacles to reaching their potential. As an organization focused on leveraging scientific knowledge for policy making, FAS will play a crucial role in surfacing state-of-the-art approaches, identifying and addressing key bottlenecks, and driving improvement and reform in government.
