FAS PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD HONOREES
Senators Schumer and Young
For their efforts on behalf of U.S. investment in science and technology, culminating with the passage of the CHIPS & Science Act, we are honoring Senate Majority Leader Senator Chuck Schumer of New York and Senator Todd Young of Indiana.

We recognize the efforts of the Senate Majority Leader Senator Chuck Schumer of New York and Senator Todd Young of Indiana on behalf of U.S. investment in science and technology with the passage of the CHIPS & Science Act. More amazing: this bill started as a conversation in the Senate gym, and over the course of two years – with substantial contributions from their House counterparts – ultimately became the most important science legislation in a decade.

The CHIPS and Science Act strengthens the United States’ ability to compete and to invest in solutions for national challenges. Beyond semiconductors, CHIPS and Science took concrete steps to strengthen innovation: it provided strategic focus for federal research and development, created investments in U.S. workers and regions, and authorized boosts for science education.
