Maryam Janani-Flores is a Senior Fellow at FAS focused on economic and innovation policy. Most recently, she served as the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Economic Development Administration at the Department of Commerce, where she oversaw policy, strategy, and operations for a $5 billion grant portfolio. Her work included supporting programs at the intersection of economic development and national and economic security, innovation ecosystems, workforce development, rural and distressed communities, and disaster recovery.

Prior to her time at Commerce, Maryam led the policy research team at the Washington Center for Equitable Growth, served as a legislative director and advisor to multiple Members of Congress, and worked as a strategy consultant for Dalberg on projects focused on economics and technology.

Maryam holds a Master of Public Affairs in economics and public policy from Princeton University and a Bachelor of Arts in neurobiology from Harvard University.
