Amanda Artsen

Dr. Artsen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of ObGynRS at the University of Pittsburgh in the division of Urogynecology and a Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) scholar. She completed her Urogynecology fellowship at UPMC after OBGYN residency at University of California, San Diego and went to medical school at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. As an academic surgeon-scientist in the field of urogynecology, she divides her time between clinical duties, teaching, and research. She earned a master’s degree in Clinical and Translational Research at the University of Pittsburgh.
Her research focuses on wound healing in vaginal reconstruction with a focus on mesh complications, sustainable and regenerative biomaterials, and the carbon footprint of surgical materials and processes. Dr. Artsen is the founder and Chair of the Magee-Womens Research Institute Sustainability committee and is on the steering committee for UPMC’s Clinicians for Climate Action. She is also the co-founder of the American Urogynecology Society’s Healthcare Sustainability special interest group.
