Olena Didenko

Olena Didenko is a third-year PhD candidate in Medical Sciences at University College London, where she researches a gene-based approach to treating cancer pain in the laboratory of Professor John Wood. A biologist by training, she holds a BSc in Biology from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and an MSc in Neuroscience from the University of Oxford. Her biosecurity work began as an AIxBiosecurity Research Fellow at ERA Cambridge, advised through the International Biosecurity and Biosafety Initiative for Science (IBBIS), where she studied how benchtop DNA synthesis and AI protein-design tools erode the chokepoints that synthesis screening depends on. As a Federation of American Scientists AI Safety Policy Entrepreneurship Fellow, she develops US biosecurity policy at the intersection of AI and nucleic acid synthesis screening. Alongside her research, Olena is an Associate Business Analyst at Infinitopes, a Cancer Research UK–backed immunotherapy spin-out, and volunteers on communications for Nucleate UK, a nonprofit biotech startup accelerator.
