Dr. Mayank Chugh is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Biology and Human Contexts of Science and Technology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). He earned his Ph.D. in Biology from Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Biology in Tübingen, Germany, followed by postdoctoral training in Systems Biology at Harvard Medical School. At UMBC, Dr. Chugh teaches across biology and interdisciplinary science and technology studies and directs the Applied Molecular Biology graduate program. He also founded and leads the ReForm Lab, an interdisciplinary lab that explores the science of science at the intersection of higher education, sociology, science and technology studies, and public policy. Through this work, he examines how scientific knowledge is produced, evaluated, communicated, and made accessible within broader institutional and societal contexts. Beyond UMBC, Dr. Chugh serves as a board member and advisor to nonprofit organizations working to improve accessibility, evaluation, and the broader infrastructure of scientific research. His work brings together biology, systems thinking, public policy, and interdisciplinary approaches to understanding and strengthening the institutions and practices that shape modern science.
