Drew Bailey joins the Federation of American Scientists as a Wildfire Policy Impact Fellow. Following an initial residency at FAS, Drew will be assigned under an Intergovernmental Personnel Act agreement to the newly established U.S. Wildland Fire Service within the Department of the Interior, where he will serve as an advisor and strategic budget planner in the Office of the Chief of Staff.
Drew brings nearly a decade of experience at the highest levels of federal policymaking, most recently as the Office of Management and Budget’s lead examiner for wildland fire management programs across the Department of the Interior and the U.S. Forest Service. In that role, Drew shaped budget requests, legislative proposals, and executive actions impacting the full spectrum of wildfire operations and contributed to major reform efforts, such as the wildland firefighter workforce reform proposal. Most recently, Drew has advised various wildfire-focused advocacy groups on policy and appropriations strategy.
Earlier in his career, Drew served at the National Security Council and various federal agencies, and was a Presidential Management Fellow. He holds a master’s degree in Security Studies from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree in International Studies from American University. Drew is currently based in Washington, DC, and spends much of his personal time in the outdoors as an avid birder and hiker.
