Gaurav Laroia is a technology and privacy lawyer in Washington, DC, whose work spans data privacy, the open internet, surveillance reform, and the governance of emerging technology and AI. He served as an Attorney Advisor to FTC Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, where he led her privacy and tech accountability work. Before that, as Senior Policy Counsel at Free Press, he worked at the intersection of civil rights, privacy, and platform governance. He has worked on rule-of-law issues domestically and abroad and began his career on Senator Edward M. Kennedy’s Judiciary Committee staff. Across these roles his work has focused on how democratic institutions can keep pace with the technologies reshaping them. He holds a J.D. and B.A. from The George Washington University.
