Finance Analyst
The Opportunity
The Federation of American Scientists (FAS) is currently in search of a dynamic and detail-oriented Finance Analyst to join our esteemed finance team. In this role, the chosen candidate will play a crucial part in the processes of accounting, budget preparation, subcontracting, and subgranting.
As a Finance Analyst, you will work closely and collaboratively with program staff, fostering effective communication and cooperation to ensure a seamless flow of information. Your primary responsibilities will be twofold: 1) guarantee that all budget, subcontract, and sub-agreement requests submitted to the finance department are processed with efficiency and accuracy, aligning with the organization’s policies and guidelines, and 2) provide accounting support around credit card reconciliations and supporting documentation.
Your role involves not only a keen attention to detail but also the ability to adhere to deadlines, ensuring that financial processes are executed in a timely manner. By maintaining open lines of communication with program staff, you will facilitate a smooth exchange of information, enabling the finance team to meet its objectives effectively.
What you’ll do (Core responsibilities)
- Reconcile credit card statements and supporting documents;
- Review Vendor/Consultant contracts and Purchase Orders (POs) in adherence to FAS procurement policy; obtain necessary signatures;
- Evaluate Subgrant Packages and financial reports following FAS subgrant management policy;
- Monitor subgrant budgets and process payments based on the agreed-upon subagreement payment schedule;
- Establish and maintain new projects in the financial and project management system throughout their life cycle;
- Provide early notification of due project financial and technical reports at the start of each month;
- Monitor outstanding receivables and communicate with Sr. Budget and Contracts Manager;
- Assist in the project closeout process and prepare for annual audits/project-specific audits;
- Ensure proper documentation and filing of all relevant items in the designated location/folder;
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience (Requirements)
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field;
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to organize paperwork in a methodical manner;
- Discreet, detail-oriented, client-focused, patient, and receptive to acquiring new skills;
- A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and pursuing it within the mission of FAS;
- Excellent communication skills, and
- 0-3 relevant years of experience.
Nice to haves
- Prior work experience from non-profit or government institutions/organizations;
- Familiarity with the 2 CFR 200 uniform guidelines is a valuable asset for this role;
- Demonstrated experience in grant management, encompassing multiple funding sources such as USG, foundations, and other funding sources.
Work Environment
This position will be a hybrid role based in Washington DC, meaning that both remote and in-person work can be accommodated, generally two to three days per week in the DC office, and two to three days per week remote.
Salary Range
$60,000 – $68,000
