Agni-II missile test fired

New Delhi, April 11 (UNI): India today successfully launched its second intermediate range ballistic missile, Agni-II, from Inner Wheeler island, a part of the Balasore missile testing range, in Orissa. Information and Broadcasting Minister Pramod Mahajan told newspersons here that the launch took place at 0947 hours and the range was 2000 km. ``It was a perfect text book fashion launch'', he said. Defence Minister George Fernandes and scientific advisor to Defence Minister Abul Kalam were present at the site. Mr Mahajan said that Pokhran II tests were conducted on May 11 last year. The Government and Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee congratulated the scientists and the people of the country for this great achievement. As per the Lahore agreement, India informed Pakistan about the test-firing. The Prime Minister will make a broadcast to the nation on the issue later in the day.
