Dr. Ziwei Qi is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at Fort Hays State University. Her research focuses on rural justice, health equity, gender-based violence, victim services, trauma-informed practices, and the social impacts of artificial intelligence. Her recent work emphasizes rural proofing as a first step in responsible AI policy and practice, ensuring that AI systems are evaluated for how they function in rural communities before they are adopted or expanded. She examines how AI affects access to justice, survivor safety, health information, and service delivery in rural settings, with particular attention to rural algorithmic invisibility. Through interdisciplinary and community-engaged scholarship, Dr. Qi works to advance AI policies, training, and governance models that reflect rural realities and promote trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and equity-driven systems.
