Skip Vaughn

Skip has over 30 years of experience in the built environment, with more than 20 years in design and construction and over 10 years in campus facilities management. Skip’s career includes 14 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, 6 years of experience in the private sector as a general contractor and construction manager, and over 18 years of experience with 3 federal agencies in the Washington, DC area. Skip has served leadership roles in numerous national-level trade organizations and is recognized as a subject matter expert in facilities management as well as design and construction.

In his former role as Chief Facilities Management Officer at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Skip collaborated with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to review NIST’s facilities and assess the impact of decades of underfunding on its mission. Skip was also a contributing writer for the National Science and Technology Council for its May 2024 report on U.S. Federal Research and Development Infrastructure.
