Matteo is a Senior AI Governance Researcher and Advisor at Apollo Research, where he undertakes technical governance research and translates technical insights into legally-informed AI policy advice for decision-makers in companies and government, focusing on AI evaluations. His research includes the first report of its kind on the risks and governance of internal deployment, a proposal on benefit-risk assessments for frontier AI, and recommendations for the identification and secure disclosure of precursory components to high-impact capabilities before external deployment. Matteo’s work has been presented at international conferences, including the Conference on Frontier AI Safety Frameworks convened as part of the first meeting of the International Network of AI Safety Institutes in San Francisco, and the Conference of the International Association for Safe and Ethical Artificial Intelligence held ahead of the Paris AI Action Summit. Prior to working full-time in AI governance, Matteo was an international commercial disputes associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP and specialized in technology regulation as a Master of Laws student and Fulbright Scholar at Stanford Law School.
