(WASHINGTON) U.S. District Court Judge Raymond Dearie from the Eastern District of New York has imposed a $10,000 fine and a $400 special assessment on Flushing, New York, computer exporter Lansing Technologies Corporation for violations of the Export Administration Regulations, Frank Deliberti, Commerce acting assistant secretary for Export Enforcement announced.

The action follows the company's June 1997 guilty plea to charges of exporting a computer vector processor and a data acquisition controller system to the People's Republic of China in 1992 without obtaining the required export licenses from the Department of Commerce. The data acquisition control system was exported by the company after its export license application was denied by the Department. The Department's Office of Export Enforcement New York field office investigated the case.

The Department of Commerce controls and licenses the export and re-export of dual-use commodities and technical data. Commerce's Bureau of Export Administration maintains and enforces these controls for reasons of national security, foreign policy, short supply and nonproliferation.
