PRESS RELEASE

The Foreign Affairs Minister of the Russian Federation,Igor Ivanov, met Leon Fuerth, national security adviser to the US Vice President, in Moscow on March 14.
In the course of the talk a thorough review was made of the state and prospects of the development of Russian-American cooperation in various areas. Special attention was paid to strengthening international security and stability. The Russian side stressed its readiness to move jointly with the US towards further deep cuts of strategic offensive weapons. At the same time the Minister noted again that this process will be put in jeopardy if the American plan to create a national ABM system is implemented.
The two sides exchanged opinions on the problems of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and means of their delivery, including in the context of the forthcoming NPT review conference.
A number of topical international and regional problems were considered including Kosovo settlement and the situation in Transcaucasia as well as some other issues on the bilateral agenda, in particular, ways to step up trade, economic and investment cooperation between Russia and the US.
