Type 80 Self-Propelled Anti-Aircraft Gun System

The Type 80 Self-Propelled Anti-Aircraft Gun System is a derivative of the Soviet ZSU-57-2 turret mounted on the Chinese Type 69 tank chassis. The guns, designated Type 59, are derived from the Soviet S-60 57mm gun. At 31 tons the hull armor is thinner than that of the original Soviet vehicle. A modification with a target surveillance radar and twin 37mm Type 76 guns mounted on a square turret has been offered for international sale. The performance of the Type 80 did not meet the performance requirements of the PLA and the international market, and according to some accounts the system never entered full production. A new system designated Type 90II is under development to meet this type's requirements.
