M831A1 120mm Target Practice - Tracer (TP-T) Cartridge

The 120mm M831A1 Target Practice - Tracer (TP-T) cartridge is a target practice round which simulates ballistics of the M830 HEAT-MP-T Cartridge. It is an improvement over the M831 cartridge which it replaces, particularly in the area of cost (saving of $200 per round), through use of finless stabilization, with primer and propellant common to the M865. The M831A1 cartridge has the exact outside appearance as the M831 except for the obturator band, 6/6 nylon on the M831A1. The M83lAl cartridge was developed from 1989 to 1992 and Type Classified (TC) in April 1993. The M83lAl cartridge was materiel released (MR) in September 1994 and fielded for soldier training in 1995.

The 120mm M831 Target Practice - Tracer (TP-T) cartridge is a target practice round which simulates ballistics of the M830 HEAT-MP-T Cartridge. It is a direct technology transfer from the German model DM-18. The M831 is a fin-stabilized, fixed round which utilizes the same propellant system as is used with the M830 round. It has canted fins, boom, steel body and aluminum spike. The canted fins impart spin to the projectile. The approximate weight is 53.4 pounds. The major components of the M831 are:

The M831 is no longer produced and was replaced by the M831A1.
