A. DESCRIPTION: THE AN/PVS-7/7B, NIGHT VISION GOGGLE, WILL BE A LIGHTWEIGHT, IMAGE INTENSIFICATION, NEAR-INFRARED DEVICE THAT USES AMBIENT LIGHT CONDITIONS. IT WEIGHS 1.5 LBS AND IS AFFIXED TO THE USER'S HEAD. AN EYEPIECE DIOPTER IS PROVIDED SO THE DEVICE CAN BE WORN WITHOUT CORRECTIVE LENSES. B. CAPABILITIES: THIS DEVICE WILL ENABLE THE USER TO PERFORM A VARIETY OF TASKS AT NIGHT. IT WILL BE EQUIPPED WITH AN INFRARED LIGHT SOURCE AND POSITIVE CONTROL SWITCH THAT WILL PERMIT CLOSE-IN VIEWING UNDER LIMITED ILLUMINATION. THE DEVICE WILL HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF CONTINUOUS, PASSIVE OPERATION OVER A 15-HOUR PERIOD WITHOUT BATTERY REPLACEMENT. C. EMPLOYMENT: THIS DEVICE WILL BE USED BY COMBAT, COMBAT SUPPORT, AND COMBAT SERVICE SUPPORT ELEMENTS OF SPECIAL OPERATIONS FORCES, INFANTRY, ARMOR, AIR DEFENSE, FIELD ARTILLERY, AVIATION, ENGINEER, INTELLIGENCE, MP, TRANSPORTATION, SIGNAL, QM, CHEMICAL, MAINTENANCE, AND MISSILE AND MUNITIONS UNITS. THE DEVICE WILL ASSIST IN THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF, BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING TASKS: COMMAND AND CONTROL, FIRE CONTROL, RECONNAISSANCE, CLOSE-IN SURVEILLANCE, TERRAIN NAVIGATION, EMERGENCY MEDICAL AID, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF VEHICLES, SELECTION OF FIGHTING POSITIONS, TRAFFIC CONTROL, REAR AREA/CRITICAL AREA SECURITY, PATROLLING, COMBAT ENGINEER MOBILITY/COUNTERMOBILITY/ SURVIVABILITY TASKS, RADAR TEAM EMPLOYMENT, AND REARM/REFUEL/RESUPPLY ACTIVITIES. D. BASIS OF ISSUE: THE AN/PVS-7/7B WILL REPLACE THE AN/PVS-5 ON A ONE-FOR-ONE BASIS AND THE FOLLOWING: (1) INFANTRY: A. INFANTRY BN, RIFLE CO, (ALL VARIATIONS) LRSU/PATHFINDER, 1:1 ALL PERSONNEL NOT IN LEADER POSITION OR NOT EQUIPPED WITH WEAPON SIGHT WHO REQUIRE NIGHT MOBILITY AND AGILITY AND WHO COULD BECOME MEMBERS OF INFANTRY BN TASK FORCE OR OPERATIONAL TEAM. B. RANGER REGT, BN, CO: ONE PER SOLDIER NOT REQUIRING A MONOCULAR NIGHT VISION DEVICE (MNVD) (LIN Z44778). (2) COMBAT,COMBAT SUPPORT,COMBAT SERVICE SUPPORT: A.ONE PER VEHICLE DRIVER IN UNITS ORGANIC TO OR IN HABITUAL SUPPORT OF THE DIVISION. B. ONE PER VEHICLE COMMANDER IN UNITS ORGANIC TO OR IN HABITUAL SUPPORT OF THE DIVISION. C. ONE PER TWO VEHICLES THAT HABITUALLY TRANSPORT SUPPLIES FROM CORPS AND DIVISION LOCATIONS TO UNITS OPERATING FORWARD OF THE DIVISION REAR BOUNDARY. D. ONE PER WHEELED VEHICLE AMBULANCE THAT OPERATES FORWARD OF THE DIVISION REAR BOUNDARY. E. ONE PER MAINTENANCE, SIGNAL, OR CHEMICAL VEHICLE THAT IS ORGANIC TO UNITS LOCATED BEHIND THE BRIGADE REAR BOUNDARY, BUT FORWARD OF THE CORPS REAR BOUNDARY THAT IS REQUIRED TO PROVIDE HABITUAL SUPPORT FORWARD OF THE BRIGADE REAR BOUNDARY. F. TWO PER WEAPONS PRIME MOVER. G. ONE PER VEHICLE IN SELECTED, HIGH-PRIORITY ORGANIZATIONS THAT OPERATE BEHIND THE DIVISION REAR BOUNDARY (I.E., PERSHING, NUCLEAR SECURITY UNITS, ETC.). H. ONE PER COMPANY AIDMAN IN THE MED SECTIONS OR SQUADS OF THE MED PLT OF COMBAT BNS OPERATING FORWARD OF THE BRIGADE REAR BOUNDARY FOR USE IN LOCATING AND ADMINISTERING FIRST AID WITHOUT THE USE OF WHITE LIGHT.
