A. DESCRIPTION: THE NBC RECON SYSTEM (NBCRS) IS A HIGHLY MOBILE, ARMORED, WHEELED VEHICLE. THE NBCRS IS 23'9" LONG, 9'8" WIDE, AND 8.0' HIGH. IT WEIGHS 18.7 TONS (COMBAT LOADED) AND HAS A GROUND CLEARANCE OF 17.1". THE ENGINE IS A V-8 DIESEL AND HAS A 6 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE NBCRS IS A 6 X 6 (4 WHEEL STEERED) WITH A MAX ROAD SPEED OF 65 MPH. THE NBCRS WILL BE A FULLY INTEGRATED NBC DETECTION, WARNING AND COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM WHICH WILL BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH CONVENTIONAL RECONNAISSANCE ELEMENTS. THE SYSTEM WILL DETECT AND IDENTIFY NUCLEAR, BIOLOGICAL AND CHEMICAL CONTAMINATION, MARK THE CONTAMINATED AREA, AND REPORT THIS INFORMATION TO HIGHER COMMAND LEVELS. IN ADDITION, THE NBCRS WILL COLLECT SAMPLES OF UNIDENTIFIABLE CHEMICAL AGENTS AND STORE THESE SAMPLES FOR FURTHER ANALYSIS. CAPABILITIES: THE NBCRS WILL DETECT, IDENTIFY AND MARK AREAS OF NBC CONTAMINATION; COLLECT AND STORE SOIL, WATER AND VEGETATION SAMPLES FOR LATER ANALYSIS; AND TRANSMIT NBC INFORMATION TO OTHER NBCRS VEHICLES AND TO AREA COMMANDERS. C. EMPLOYMENT: THE NBCRS WILL BE UTILIZED BY NBC RECON ELEMENTS OF CHEMICAL PROPONENT TOE WITH RESPONSIBILITY FOR PERFORMING NBC RECONNAISSANCE MISSIONS. THE NBCRS WILL BE EMPLOYED WITHIN THE THEATER OF OPERATONS IN CONJUNCTION WITH CONVENTIONAL RECONNAISSANCE ELEMENTS CONSISTENT WITH CURRENT SITUATION, COMMANDER'S GUIDANCE AND MISSION REQUIREMENTS. D. BASIS OF ISSUE: (A) 1 PER NBC RECONNAISSANCE TEAM IN THE CHEMICAL COMPANY, HEAVY DIVISION, AND ARMORED CAVALRY REGIMENT. (B) 1 PER NBC RECONNAISSANCE TEAM IN THE CHEMICAL RECON COMPANY, CORPS. (C) 1 PER NBC RECONNAISSANCE TEAM, LA. E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: NONE. F. TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS: NONE. G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS: (1) OPERATOR(S) (A) CREW SIZE/MOS: FOUR CREW MEMBERS/54B ASI L5. EITHER ONE MOS 74A CHEMICAL OFFICER OR ONE 54B NBC SPECIALIST (PLT SGT) WILL SUBSTITUTE AS FOURTH CREW MEMBER IN TWO OF EACH SIX VEHICLES ASSIGNED. (B) TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: NET TRAINING IS PROPOSED TO BE CONDUCTED BY A CONTRACTOR. (2) MAINTAINERS: (A) PRINCIPAL ITEM: UNIT LEVEL: 31U, 35Y, 52C, 63J, 63S, 92Y. SPECIAL NOTES: THIS ITEM IS CONSIDERED APPROPRIATE FOR INCLUSION IN AR 71-13. (A) MOS 54B WILL BE REQUIRED TO PERFORM UNIQUE DUTIES OF VEHICLE COMMANDER, VEHICLE DRIVER/OPERATOR, AND MACHINE GUNNER. (IT IS A CREW SERVED SYSTEM/VEHICLE.) (B) CONTRACT MAINTENANCE DELETES THE REQUIREMENT FOR PRINCIPAL AND COMPONENT ITEM MOS SUPPORT UNTIL 4TH QTR FY94. IN 4TH QTR FY94, ONLY UNIT LEVEL MOS 31U, 63J, AND 92Y ARE REQUIRED. CONTRACT MAINTENANCE WILL CONTINUE FOR DS AND GS LEVELS. (C) THE NBCRS IS A NDI CATEGORY C ITEM (PER AMC/TRADOC PAM 70-7 DEFINITION). THE XM93 WAS TC-LPU ON 900314. (D) COMPONENTS LISTED WILL BE ISSUED WITH THE SYSTEM, THEREFORE DATA INTERCHANGE WILL NOT BE SUBMITTED. (E) ALL XM93'S WILL EVENTUALLY BE UPGRADED TO XM93E1'S. (F) THE XM93 WILL BE OPERATED BY A FOUR (4) MAN CREW. FIELDING OF THE XM93 WILL NOT IMPACT ON THE FORCE STRUCTURE OR REQUIRE ANY NEW MOS'S TO OPERATE OR MAINTAIN THE SYSTEM.
