LAU-141/A Trapeze Launcher

On the new F-22 Raptor the AIM-9 Sidewinder missile is carried on a Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems-built LAU-141/A hydraulic launcher, called a Trapeze Launcher. One missile is carried in each side weapons bay. The launcher, which uses some components from the existing LAU-128/A launcher, is basically the wingtip launch rail from an F-16 with a swing out mechanism that extends rapidly. The LAU-141/A is also fitted with a missile motor plume deflector, which prevents damage to the side weapons bay as the missile launches off the rail.
