NWP - 3-20.6 superseded NWP 60 and gives somewhat more definitive guidance on drafting battle orders and general guidance on what should be contained in the ship’s fighting doctrine.

For the first time this guidance requires COs to establish a battle organization and maintain fighting proficiency as part of the ship’s training plan.

This publication also acknowledges the need for COs to develop “tactical innovation necessary to win,” as not every solution will be found in doctrine or TACMEMOs.
