1.  MISSION.  TO PERFORM AERIAL RECONNAISSANCE AND SCREENING
OPERATIONS FOR THE AIR ASSAULT DIVISION.

2.  ASSIGNMENT.  ORGANIC TO THE DIVISION AVIATION BRIGADE OF
THE AIR ASSAULT DIVISION, TOE 01200A.

3.  CAPABILITIES.

    A.  AT LEVEL 1, THIS UNIT PROVIDES:

        (1)  ROUTE, ZONE, AND AREA RECONNAISSANCE OF AN AREA
OF OPERATIONS TO OBTAIN INTELLIGENCE ABOUT THE ENEMY AND THE
TERRAIN.

        (2)  SCREENING OPERATIONS TO MAINTAIN SURVEILLANCE
AND PROVIDE EARLY WARNING OF CONTACT WITH ENEMY FORCES.

        (3)  GUARD AND COVERING FORCE OPERATIONS, AS PART OF
A LARGER FORCE, TO PROVIDE EARLY WARNING, REACTION TIME, AND
MANEUVER SPACE FOR FRIENDLY FORCES.

        (4)  RECONNAISSANCE, SURVEILLANCE, AND SECURITY OF
LINES OF COMMUNICATION TO ENHANCE COMMAND AND CONTROL.

        (5)  NUCLEAR, BIOLOGICAL, AND CHEMICAL (NBC)
RECONNAISSANCE, TO INCLUDE AERIAL RADIOLOGICAL SURVEYS.

        (6)  TARGET ACQUISITION FOR FIELD ARTILLERY, NAVAL
GUNFIRE, ATTACK HELICOPTERS, AND TACTICAL AIR ASSETS.

        (7)  ASSISTANCE IN CONTROLLING TROOP MOVEMENTS
WITHIN AND THROUGH THE DIVISION AREA OF OPERATIONS.

        (8)  SECURITY FOR AIR ASSAULT OPERATIONS.

        (9)  AIR COMBAT OPERATIONS TO PROTECT MANEUVER
FORCES, AUGMENT AIR DEFENSE FORCES, OR TO PROVIDE SELF-
DEFENSE FOR AVIATION FORCES.

       (10)  CONTINUOUS DAY AND NIGHT AVIATION OPERATIONS
DURING VISUAL AND MARGINAL WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LIMITED
AVIATION OPERATIONS DURING INSTRUMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS.

       (11)  UNIT LEVEL PERSONNEL SERVICE SUPPORT, INCLUDING
PERSONNEL, ADMINISTRATIVE, LEGAL, HEALTH, AND RELIGIOUS
SERVICES, FOR ALL ORGANIC OR ATTACHED UNITS.

       (12)  UNIT LEVEL LOGISTICAL SUPPORT, INCLUDING
SUPPLY, AUTOMOTIVE AND COMMUNICATIONS MAINTENANCE, AND FOOD
SERVICE, FOR ALL ORGANIC OR ATTACHED UNITS.

       (13)  AVIATION UNIT MAINTENANCE (AVUM) FOR ALL
ORGANIC AIRCRAFT.

    B.  THE COLUMNS UNDER LEVELS 2 AND 3 ADAPT THIS TABLE
FOR REDUCED OPERATIONAL CAPABILITIES IN DECREMENTS OF 10
PERCENT, FROM APPROXIMATELY 90 PERCENT FOR LEVEL 2 TO
APPROXIMATELY 80 PERCENT FOR LEVEL 3.

    C.  THIS UNIT IS NOT ADAPTABLE TO A TYPE B ORGANIZATION.

    D.  THE COLUMNS DESIGNATED BY LEVELS 1 THROUGH 3 ARE
DESIGNED TO RELATE TO THE CATEGORIES ESTABLISHED IN AR
220-1, UNIT STATUS REPORTING.

    E.  INDIVIDUALS OF THIS ORGANIZATION, EXCEPT THE
CHAPLAIN AND MEDICAL PERSONNEL, CAN ASSIST IN THE
COORDINATED DEFENSE OF THE UNIT'S AREA OR INSTALLATION.

    F.  THIS UNIT PERFORMS UNIT MAINTENANCE ON ALL ORGANIC
EQUIPMENT EXCEPT MEDICAL AND COMMUNICATIONS SECURITY
(COMSEC).

    G.  THIS UNIT IS DEPENDENT UPON:

        (1)  APPROPRIATE ELEMENTS OF THE DIVISION, CORPS, OR
THEATER ARMY FOR LEGAL, FINANCE, AND LOGISTICAL SUPPORT,
INCLUDING SUPPLEMENTAL TRANSPORTATION.

        (2)  U.S. AIR FORCE FOR A TACTICAL AIR CONTROL PARTY
(TACP) TO COORDINATE, DIRECT, AND CONTROL TACTICAL AIR
SUPPORT.

        (3   U.S. AIR FORCE WEATHER TEAM IN THE HEADQUARTERS
AND HEADQUARTERS COMPANY OF THE DIVISION AVIATION BRIGADE,
TOE 01202A, FOR AIR WEATHER SUPPORT IN ACCORDANCE WITH AR
115-10/AFR 105-3 AND FM 34-81/AFM 105-4.

4.  BASIS OF ALLOCATION.  ONE PER DIVISION AVIATION BRIGADE,
