  • ["Ananovich was born in the Grozno region in Belarus in 1951. He graduated from the Kaliningrad Higher Naval College in 1976, Navy's Higher Officer Classes in 1984 and Navy Academy in 1989. Ananovich occupied various posts in the Baltic Fleet, starting from air defence missile battery commander at the Obraztsovy large anti-submarine ship, chief officer at the Silny and Neukrotimy guard ships, Oktyabrskaya Revolyutsiya cruisers. Later he became commander of the Silny guard ship, then deputy commander of a landing ship brigade. Following that he was promoted to brigade commander and then chief-of-staff of a surface vessels division. First (Moscow-Minsk Proletarian) Motorized-Rifle Division [Ground / Coastal Troops]

  • To be disbanded by June, 2002.  "The division will be replaced by a motorized rifle brigade while 800 officer posts will be reduced in the course of the transformation. The unit was established in Moscow in December 1927. It got the title of guard division, solemn denomination of "Moscow-Minsk" and four orders for courage and heroism displayed during World War II. The first attempt to disband the division took place in 1996 but then-defense minister Igor Rodionov opposed the move" (Agentstvo Voyennykh Novostey, 5 Nov 01).

  • ["The base is in charge of dozens of moorages in Lomonosov, Kronshtadt, Vysotsk, and so forth.  Most of them are idle, and the military lease them to various civilian organizations, which use them as they see fit.  For instance, at one Leningrad Naval Base moorage in Kronshtadt (Fort Konstantin) Morskaya Liga, a local firm, has constructed a hotel and a fashionable restaurant.  And in Lomonosov the military have leased four moorages to the Russian Financial Corporation.  Freight from ships arriving there underwent "streamlined registration and customs clearance procedures" (Kommersant 01 Aug 01 P 3 ).]

  • [KUDRYAVTSEV: "Born on April 18, 1950 in Riga, Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic, he graduated from the Kaliningrad Higher Naval School in 1972 and served on the Black Sea Fleet as group commander and department commander of a warship. In 1976 he graduated from the Higher Specialised Officer Classes and returned to the Black Sea Fleet as ship's first lieutenant; he was later promoted to ship commander. After graduating from the Naval Academy in 1983 he returned to the Black Sea Fleet, where he commanded a cruiser and was chief of staff - deputy brigade commander. In 1988 - 90 he commanded a brigade of missile boats on the Baltic Fleet. In 1992 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and was dispatched to the Baltic Fleet as commander of a division of missile ships; he was subsequently promoted to commander of a division of surface ships of the Baltic Fleet. In 1995 he assumed the post of chief of staff -first deputy commander of the Leningrad naval base of the Baltic Fleet.   • ["LENINGRAD NAVAL BASE TO BE INSPECTED DUE TO CHIEF'S POWER ABUSE (15.08.01 16:51:39) ST.PETERSBURG, August 15 (AVN) - Following the opening of a criminal case against Leningrad naval base commander Vice Admiral Alexander Kornilov military prosecutors launched inspection of the base's financial service, a spokesman for the base headquarters said on Wednesday. The charges against Kornilov are not brought in yet, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. Prosecutors suspect the admiral of power abuse but do not disclose its manifestations. According to some sources, prosecutors found violations in the financial and economic activities on the base. The final decision will be made after the current revision and forthcoming inspection of the Armed Forces rear which is to start on August 20. Kornilov was born in the Altai territory on August 11, 1947. After graduating from the Pacific Higher Navy College he served at the Northern Fleet as commander of the mine and torpedo section of a nuclear submarine and senior assistant of the submarine commander. In 1976 he went to serve at the Baltic Fleet where he became submarine commander. After graduating from the higher officer courses and Navy Academy Kornilov was appointed division chief-of-staff. Following that he was enrolled in the General Staff Academy and headed submarine division after the graduation.
