STANDING COMMITTEE OF THE POLITICAL COMMISSION

1999 - Year of Generalised Popular Resistance

COMMUNIQUE NO. 6/CPM/99

1. On the morning of March 6th 1999, the armed forces of the Generalised Popular Resistance liberated the municipality of Kamakupa, 60km east of the capital city of the province of Bie.

2. This new military success, which comes following the downfall of the offensive of Eduardo dos Santos' armed forces against Andulo, confirms the following:

(a) the concentration of power into the hands of Eduardo dos Santos, who is also the head of Government, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister for Defence "as he has always been in his 20 years in power", is not a solution to the war in Angola. This does not come near to solving the fundamental problems of the Angolans.

(b) the sophisticated war material acquired by Eduardo dos Santos, to the detriment of the great majority of Angolans who hold out their hand to the international charity to survive, will never overcome the special will and soul of the Generalised Popular Resistance.

(c) the solution to the problem in Angola requires the understanding of cultural, political and socio-economic aspects which are characteristics which differentiate the Angolan problem from others.

3. The sooner Eduardo dos Santos gets this understanding, the better the future will be for all of us. Otherwise, the Generalised Popular Resistance will not bargain for the defence of the excluded by the regime in Luanda.

4. It is important to note that the sophisticated war material, as presented by a Portuguese TV programme in the last 24 hours, used by Eduardo dos Santos forces in the offensive against Andulo, was captured by the Generalised Popular Resistance "GPR".

The GPR has already put it in use against the aggressor, in its self-sacrificing effort to liberate the nation.

In the name of the truth, those who wish to confirm these facts are invited to come and see with their own eyes.
