Hunter-to-JRTCDeployment/Employment Concept

• Per CSA direction, Hunter-to-JRTC to be operational for Jun 99 Rotation [#99-08]

• 29 SIB (HI ARNG) identified as #99-08 rotational training unit

• DA distribution plan reflects no Bde Cdr’s UAV assets to National Guard brigades

• CG, JRTC & Fort Polk directs that Hunter UAV system support to Rotation #99-08 will operate from Division to provide intelligence support down to the Brigade “in-the-box”

• Hunter to be controlled from outside the box; RVT used by 29 SIB “in-the-box”

• Inaugural UAV support to JRTC training; keep it simple to start - “Let’s walk before we run”

• National Guard utilization of UAV support (UAV control at Division vice at 29 SIB) supports the “Walk before Run” concept and follows doctrinal concept for Reserve/National Guard augmentation to Active Army forces

• TSM-UAV/PM JTUAV/111th MI Bde briefing visit to JRTC - 19 Jan 99
  • Provided JRTC & Fort Polk staff with 18 Dec CSA decision brief
  • Walked the terrain and provided system considerations for JRTC decision on asset placement (Self Forward Landing Strip {FLS})

• Current JRTC UAV planning:
  • Unit of Assignment: HHC, JRTC Operations Group
  • Operational Alignment: work for/under the Chief, Intelligence Division, JRTC Operations Group
  • Unit Base of Operations: placed at Self FLS. Hunter unit will operate/maintain system from permanent facility (building, concrete pad, fenced area)
  • CG, JRTC & Ft Polk wants full Hunter baseline system fielded to permit flexibility to support JRTC Rotations, Mission Rehearsal Exercises, & 2ACR prep for NTC Rotations
