Washington -- President Clinton announced his intent December 2 to
appoint Randy W. Deitering as the Executive Director of the
President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board.


Deitering has served three successive Presidents as a member of the
White House staff. The White House announcement said that during his
"more than eight-year association with the President's Foreign
Intelligence Advisory Board (PFIAB), Mr. Deitering has worked directly
for eight successive Chairmen."


Deitering has a Master of Arts degree in comparative politics (Russian
and Eastern Europe) from New York University.


The White House announcement described the board in this way: "The
President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board is responsible for
assessing the quality, quantity, and adequacy of intelligence
collection, analysis, and estimates. In addition, the Board addresses
counterintelligence and other intelligence activities. PFIAB has the
authority to review, on behalf of the President, the performance of
all U.S. Government agencies engaged in the collection, analysis or
production of foreign intelligence, or the execution of foreign
intelligence policy. This Board is privy to the most highly classified
and sensitive foreign intelligence information in the U.S.
Government."

PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES RANDY W. DEITERING AS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
OF THE PRESIDENT'S FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE ADVISORY BOARD


The President today announced his intent to appoint Randy W. Deitering
as the Executive Director of the President's Foreign Intelligence
Advisory Board.


Mr. Randy W. Deitering, of Burke, Virginia, has served three
successive Presidents as a member of the White House staff.


During his more than eight-year association with the President's
Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board (PFIAB), Mr. Deitering has worked
directly for eight successive Chairmen.


He was named Acting Executive Director of the Board March 1, 1995.
Until that date, he had been Deputy Executive Director of the Board
since August 1990. He served as an Assistant Director of the PFIAB
from April 1988 to April 1989, and again from December 1989 to April
1990. Mr. Deitering has over 23 years experience as a foreign
intelligence officer, primarily with the Central Intelligence Agency.
He has worked in nearly every facet of the foreign intelligence
business: analysis, collection, technical operations, and executive
staffing.


Mr. Deitering has a Master of Arts degree in comparative politics
