TEXT: THE NEW DIRECTOR OF ISRAEL'S MOSSAD SECRET SERVICE IS
EFRAIM HALEVY. HE SERVED AS DEPUTY DIRECTOR IN THE ISRAELI SPY
AGENCY AND IS NOW ISRAEL'S AMBASSADOR TO THE EUROPEAN UNION.

THE APPOINTMENT SHOULD PLEASE JORDAN'S KING HUSSEIN, WHO STILL IS
ANGRY AFTER THE BUNGLED MOSSAD ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT AGAINST A
PALESTINIAN LEADER IN JORDAN LAST SEPTEMBER. KING HUSSEIN SAID
THERE WOULD BE NO SECURITY COOPERATION WITH ISRAEL UNTIL THE
HEAD OF THE MOSSAD RESIGNED.

HE DID. AND HIS REPLACEMENT, MR. HALEVY, IS A REGULAR VISITOR TO
KING HUSSEIN'S PALACE. MR. HALEVY, WORKING BEHIND THE SCENES AS
A MOSSAD AGENT, HELPED NEGOTIATE THE PEACE TREATY BETWEEN ISRAEL
AND JORDAN.

HIS JOB WILL BE TO REBUILD THE ONCE-BRILLIANT AGENCY, BATTERED BY
A STRING OF FAILURES THAT BECAME PUBLIC. (SIGNED)
