Army Reservists mobilized to support Operation Determined Effort (Jan. 23)


ATLANTA (Army News Service) -- Nearly 1,200 soldiers from U.S. Army Reserve Command units throughout the United States have been mobilized and deployed in support of Operation Determined Effort

Participating in one of the quickest mobilizations in recent history, the Reservists were called to active duty to support U.S. military operations in Bosnia. Of the more than 1,200 Army Reservists mobilized to date, more than 1,100 soldiers have deployed overseas and are stationed in Bosnia or in Germany, providing support to forward-deployed European-based U.S. units.

The following units, assigned to the U.S. Army Reserve Command, have deployed overseas in support of Operation Determined Effort:

The Reservists will provide support in combat support and combat service support areas such as public affairs, postal operations, medical services, transportation, supply and logistics.

Under the authority of the Presidential Selected Reserve Call-Up, issued on December 8, 1995, soldiers assigned to the units listed above will remain on active duty for up to 270 days.

In addition to the units listed above, another 60 soldiers from three USARC units have been activated and mobilized to support installation operations at Fort Benning, Ga.:

The Army Reserve has also mobilized 11 European-based units assigned to the 7th Army Reserve Command headquartered in Heidelberg, Germany to support U.S. military operations in Bosnia. Another 26 Army Reserve Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations units have deployed overseas to support Operation Determined Effort.

- The Army Reserve provides essential combat support and combat service support capabilities to America s Army. Examples of this support include transportation, medical, quartermaster, supply, logistics, engineer, military police and public affairs.

Headquartered in Atlanta, the USARC commands, controls and supports all Army Reserve troop units in the continental United States with the exception of Psychological Operations, Civil Affairs and Special Forces Units. The USARC s primary mission is to provide trained and ready units to support America s Army and America. Approximately 200,000 soldiers are assigned to some 1,700 USARC units throughout the United States.
