Team SBL IFX Joint Venture, Canoga Park, Calif., was awarded on Feb. 8, 1999, a $125,000,000 cost-plus-award-fee contract to provide for the first increment (February 1999-February 2000) of the Space Based Laser Program's Integrated Flight Experiment project. The project will mature and integrate the component technologies and will include a component and system-level test program leading to a proof-of-concept-on-orbit demonstration. The first increment involves accomplishment of an overarching high energy laser architecture and affordability study to determine requirements to define a cost-effective ballistic missile defense capability, completion of ongoing risk reduction technology, and development of an Integrated Program Execution Plan. This effort will be performed by Joint Venture team members; The Boeing Company, Canoga Park, Calif.; Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space, Sunnyvale, Calif.; and TRW, Inc., Redondo Beach, Calif. Expected contract completion date is February 2000. Negotiation completion date was Feb. 10, 1999. Space and Missile Systems Center, Los Angeles AFB, Calif., is the contracting activity (F04701-99-C-0026).
