Theater Missile Defense Advanced Warfighting Experiment
The Theater Missile Defense Advanced Warfighting Experiment (TMD AWE), conducted from July 1994 to October 1995, consisted of two major components. The first is a live exercise conducted as part of EXERCISE ROVING SANDS 95, an integrated air defense exercise sponsored by USACOM and executed by FORSCOM. The second is Joint Project Optic Cobra (JPOC), the CINCENT's joint TMD exercise that is conducted in conjunction with ROVING SANDS. Both exercises were held from 28 April to 8 May 1995 at Fort Bliss and White Sands Missile Range.

Developing Tactics, Techniques and Procedures [TTP] for Theater Missile Defense
This article, by George A. Durham, appeared on pages 17-21 of the September-October 1995 issue of "Field Artillery" To address the issues of TMD from the Army perspective, a TMD advanced warfighting experiment (AWE) was conducted 28 April through 10 May at Fort Bliss, Texas, and White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. The concurrent exercises were Joint Project Optic Cobra (JPOC), a Commander-in-Chief experiment focused on joint TMD attack operations; Operational Concept Demonstration (OCD), an US Air Force attack operations and command and control experiment; Special Project Night Vector (SPNV), a US Navy project to link various joint and national intelligence programs; and the US Army's TMD-AWE. Among other results, the TMD-AWE also validated the use of UAVs to locate and target enemy missile launchers. The Predator UAV provided intelligence used by both Army and Air Force attack systems to destroy missiles prior to their being launched.
