Wuhu Airbase

In 1991 China purchased an initial batch of 24 SU-27s for about $1 billion which were delivered in late 1992 and based at Wuhu Air Base, 250 kilometers west of Shanghai. Flight testing at Wuhu began in early February 1993, and training was conducted in the border area between Anhui and Jiangsu provinces. The permanent base of the Su-27 is at the Yulin naval port, near Sanya City on Hainan Island.

High resolution imagery is available from two sources, including declassified CORONA imagery. As of 08 April 2000 Russian 2-meter resolution KVR-1000 imagery coverage was not available via the SPIN-2 service on TerraServer. As of 08 April 2000 archival Space Imaging IKONOS 1-meter imagery available on the CARTERRA™ Archive included a single cloud-free scene acquired on 29 March 2000 [the browse scene is inverted, with North to the bottom].
