With the approval of the State Council, the Chinese government
reformed the top ten Defense and Technology Corporations. These
corporations are all large State Owned Enterprises(SOE's)under
direct supervision of the State Council.

These SOE's are the China National Nuclear Corporation(CNNC);
the China Nuclear Engineering & Construction Group
Corporation(CNEC); the China Aerospace Science and Technology
Corporation(CASC); the China Aerospace Machinery and Electronics
Corporation(CAMEC); the China Aviation Industry Corporation
I(AVIC I); the China Aviation Industry Corporation II(AVIC II);
the China State Shipbuilding Corporation(CSSC); the China
Shipbuilding Industry Corporation(CSIC); the China North
Industries Group Corporation (CNGC); and the China South
Industries Group Corporation(CSG).
A brief description of the activities of each SOE follows.

1. The China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC)
CNNC is based on the former China Nuclear Industry Company and
is made up of 246 industrial companies and institutes. CNNC's
business scope includes nuclear power, nuclear material, nuclear
fuel, nuclear instruments, nuclear technology applications and
R&D, and establishing, and the construction of nuclear related
facilties.

2. The China Nuclear Engineering & Construction Group
Corporation(CNEC)
CNEC's business scope is in R&D, construction engineering and
financial trading.

3. The China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation(CASC)
CASC evolved from the former China Aerospace Corporation
encompassing some of its organizations. CASC has registered
capital of RMB 9 billion(US$1,084 million). Over 130
organizations are subordinate to CASC, including the Chinese
Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology(CALT), the Academy of Space
Technology(SAST), the Chinese Academy of Space Electronic
Technology(CASET), and the Academy of Space Chemical Propulsion
Technology. CASC specializes in developing, manufacturing and
supplying spacecraft launch vehicles and various types of
Strategic and tactical missiles. In addition, CASC exclusively
provides international commercial launch service for satellite
application systems. In addition to the above space products and
services, CASC also develops, manufactures and supplies a
variety of civilian products such as machinery, chemicals,
communications equipment, transportation equipment, computers,
medical care products and environmental protection equipment.

4. The China Aerospace Machinery and Electronics
Corporation(CAMEC)
CAMEC evolved from the former China Aerospace Corporation and
encompasses the latter's organizations. CAMAC has registered
capital of RMB 74 billion(US$8,915 million). CAMAC's business
scope includes all kinds of missile and weapon systems, and
other aerospace products. In addition, CAMEC also supplies many
kinds of civilian products such as machinery, electronics,
chemicals, communication, computer products.

5. The China Aviation Industry Corporation I (AVIC-I)
The China Aviation Industry Corporation I evolved from the
former China Aviation Industry. It is a large state-owned
enterprise with a total capital of RMB 349 billion ($USD42
billion). AVIC I is mainly in charge of the development,
manufacturing, sales, and after-sales service of a variety of
military and civilian airplanes and related engines and
equipment.

6. The China Aviation Industry Corporation II (AVIC-II)
AVIC-II also evolved from the former China Aviation Industry.
Its business scope includes investment, finance, general
aerospace, auto, medical, environment, construction, real
estate, and other areas. It is more of conglomerate then AVIC-I.

7. The China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC)
CSSC supplies modern equipment for the Chinese Navy. They also
supply military and civilian ships for the domestic and the
overseas market.

8. The China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC)
CSIC owns the biggest shipyard in China and uses the most
advanced technology for building and repairing ships.

9. The China North Industries Group Corporation(CNGC)
CNGC has a registered capital of RMB 254 billion(US$30 billion),
Its main business is supplying products for the Chinese
military. It also develops high technology civilian use
machinery, chemicals, construction machinery, and other
products.

10. The China South Industries Group Corporation (CSG)
CSG is comprised of 76 companies. It's main civilian products
are small cars and motors. CSG is also very strong in
researching and developing military products.
