Taipei, March 27 (CNA) The ROC Navy is planning to add a group of fast attack boats equipped with missiles to its fleet in order to help beef up the defense capabilities of the nation, navy sources said on Monday.
The navy has completed a blueprint for the building of the "Kuanghua 6." Bidding for the construction of the fast attack boats will begin next month.
The state-owned China Shipbuilding Corp. (CSBC) is now working to win the contract for construction of the "Kuanghua 6" high-speed boats.
CSBC officials noted that the company has ample experience in the construction of navy ships, adding that it has been able to meet the deadlines and quality requirements of every order it has received.
The officials said that CSBC has built and turned over seven Chengkung-class high-speed frigates, patterned after the Perry-class frigates, to the navy. The seven frigates have become the backbone of the ROC Navy.
The CSBC has also been commissioned to build eleven 500-ton near-sea Chinchiang-class patrol gun boats, and has already turned four of them over to the navy. (By Lilian Wu)
