DAILY PRESS BRIEFING OF APRIL 20, 2000
STATEMENT BY THE FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOKESMAN
The Documentation française service has published an official document entitled "Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-proliferation: Action by France" for the five-yearly review conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) (New York, April 24-May 19). It is a collective work with contributions by experts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, the Secretariat General for National Defense and the Atomic Energy Commission.
It is a reference work intended for experts, diplomats, military personnel and the general public and for the first time presents a synthesis of French arms control policy with articles in the nuclear, conventional, ballistic, chemical and biological fields plus the issue of arms-exports monitoring. It includes a chronology and glossary and is published in a bilingual French-English version.
In view of the particular interest of this publication, which illustrates the importance of French policy on disarmament and non-proliferation, a press briefing to present the work will be given by Anne Gazeau-Secret, Foreign Ministry spokesperson, and Jean-François Bureau, Defense Minister spokesman, on Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at 12 noon at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
