Fort Polk, Louisiana -- Soldiers from two NATO countries and 14 Central and Eastern European nations arrived at Alexandria Industrial Air Park, La., today to take part in the first Partnership for Peace Program held on United States soil. More than 4,000 military personnel will participate in this exercise. This year's exercise, officially called Cooperative Nugget 95 (CN95) will take at the Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, La. Scheduled by NATO's Allied Command Atlantic and hosted on behalf of the U.S. by the Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Atlantic Command, this is the sixth military exercise to be conducted as part of NATO's PFP program. The goal of the PFP program is to encourage participating countries to model their militaries after NATO in order to become more defense-oriented elements of their society. Strongly supported by the U.S., the PFP program is a major initiative by NATO directed at increasing the confidence and the cooperative effort of participating forces. Cooperative Nugget 95 demonstrates U.S. continued support and commitment to NATO, the PFP program and growth in~ Europe. The aim of CN 95 is to foster interoperability between the participating forces. Units will practice tactics and techniques used in peacekeeping and humanitarian relief missions. The exercise will provide training challenges for a combined peacekeeping force with a focus on ~platoon-sized and company-sized elements. Cooperative Nugget 95 continues through~ August 26. NATO participating nations include: Canada, th~e United Kin~gdom and the~ United States. PIP nations include: Albania, Bulgaria, The Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, The Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. NNNN  .
