PURPOSE

The purpose of the Army Watercraft Management Action Group (AWMAG) is to provide a standing forum of key Army agencies to manage the Army’s current fleet of watercraft; define the vision for this force; and make recommendations regarding doctrine, force structure, force modernization, procurement and divestiture actions.

GOAL

The goal of the AWMAG is to develop, implement, and maintain a coherent Army Watercraft Master Plan (AWMP) for the management of an operationally effective fleet of Army watercraft. The AWMP supports the Army Strategic Mobility Program (ASMP) and Force XXI initiatives by addressing issues such as doctrine, force structure, prepositioning, fleet distribution, sustainment, and modernization programs.

MEMBERSHIP

General membership of the AWMAG is open to all members of the Army community with a vested interest in Army watercraft doctrine, planning, operations, requirements, acquisition, and modernization. Attendance at meetings will include at a minimum: HQDA (DAMO-FDL and DALO-TSM), TRADOC, FORSCOM, OCAR, USARC, CASCOM, AMC, TACOM, OCOT, 7th Transportation Group, and Army MACOMs. An AWMAG steering committee will meet as necessary and at the direction of HQDA DCSOPS (DAMO-FDL) to develop and provide guidance to the full AWMAG membership.

FUNCTIONS

• Develop and implement policy regarding Army plans, procedures, and requirements for Army watercraft in support of the ASMP and Force XXI initiatives.

• Advise HQDA, TRADOC, CASCOM, the Chief of Transportation, the Chief, Army Reserve, and TACOM of watercraft requirements and significant developments in connection with watercraft doctrine, resources, sustainment, RDT&E, and modernization.

• Establish procedures for the coordination of actions necessary to implement the AWMP while integrating any other Army regulatory documents and plans affecting watercraft resources, sustainment, RDT&E, and modernization.

• Monitor, coordinate, and resolve all Army watercraft issues as identified and directed by HQDA, TRADOC, CASCOM, the Chief of Transportation, the Chief of Army Reserve, and TACOM.

• Develop a total management approach to Army watercraft that ensures not only present support, but identifies the actions and technologies necessary for support into the 21st century.
