This Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) Family of Munitions (AFOM) Special Text (ST) provides the fire support tactics, techniques, and procedures for all fire support organizations to effectively employ the AFOM. It supports the training requirements for Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) battalions, corps, and Echelons Above Corps (EAC) command and staff elements responsible for AFOM planning and employment. The key to maximizing the AFOM effectiveness is a thorough understanding of the fire support system and the Decide-Detect-Deliver-Assess (D3A) targeting process.
This ST focuses on the AFOMs impact on the fire support planning and targeting process and the existing fire support "system of systems". It will be updated as changes in the system of systems occur. Ultimately, FM 6-60, Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for MLRS Operations will contain the TTP for all variants. Hereafter, each AFOM variant is referred to by its block number variant (e.g., Block I, IA, II, IIA).
There currently are 1545 Block I missiles fielded. The following identifies the fielding schedule for the remaining AFOM:
