A. DESCRIPTION: THE BREACHER (GRIZZLY), LIN Z23978, CONSISTS OF A M1 ABRAHMS CHASSIS WITHOUT TURRET, EQUIPPED WITH A MINE CLEARING BLADE, POWER DRIVEN ARM, AND COMMANDERS CONTROL STATION. THE GRIZZLY HAS A LENGTH OF 958.4 CM (377.6 IN); A WIDTH OF 365.5 CM (144 IN), A HEIGHT OF 288.1 CM (113.5 IN); A CUBE OF 101.5 CUBIC METERS (3586.5 CUBIC FEET); IT WEIGHS 77.14 METRIC TONS (70 TONS). B. CAPABILITIES: 1) THE GRIZZLY HAS A FULL VEHICLE WIDTH MINE CLEARING AND OBSTACLE REDUCING CAPABILITY. WITH THE SUPPORT OF FIRE AND OBSCURATION, THE GRIZZLY PROVIDES AN IN-STRIDE CAPABILITY TO BREACH COMPLEX OBSTACLES OF MINES, WIRE, POSTS, RUBBLE, AND DITCHES, TO CREATE A SAFE, TRAFFICABLE LANE FOR OTHER VEHICLES TO FOLLOW. THE POWER DRIVEN ARM CAN PERFORM A VARIETY OF TASKS, TO INCLUDE DIGGING, LIFTING, AND GRAPPLING. 2) THE MINE CLEARING BLADE CAN CLEAR A PASSAGE LANE 421CM (164 IN) WIDE. THE POWER DRIVEN ARM IS CAPABLE OF LIFTING 1860KG (4100 LBS) AT A MAXIMUM REACH (100% EXTENSION), AND 3629KG (8000 LBS) AT 50% EXTENSION. C. EMPLOYMENT: THE GRIZZLY WILL PROVIDE COMBAT SUPPORT TO THE FORWARD AREA TASK FORCE. IT WILL BE EMPLOYED AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE M1/M2 EQUIPPED MANEUVER TASK FORCE LEADING THEM THROUGH COMPLEX OBSTACLES WITH A MINIMUM LOSS OF MOMENTUM. D. BASIS OF ISSUE: THE BREACHER (GRIZZLY) WILL REPLACE THE COMBAT ENGINEER VEHICLE (CEV), LIN E56578, AT A RATIO OF TWO TO ONE. E. POWER REQUIREMENTS: THERE ARE NO EXTERNAL POWER REQUIREMENTS. G. PERSONNEL/MAINTENANCE IMPACTS: 1. OPERATOR: THE GRIZZLY HAS A TWO MAN CREW WITH A CMF OF 12B. 2.
