AN/ARC-171

The AFSATCOM Terminal Upgrade [ATU] program is upgrading fielded Air Force Satellite Communications System (AFSATCOM) terminals to improve the teletype data communications service used for command and control of peacetime, crisis/contingency, strategic and special operations missions. This program upgrades the AN/ARC-171 radios and the MD-1035 telegraph modems in the force element AFSATCOM terminals to provide all mode UHF operation with the Single Channel Transponder (SCT) and Milstar systems. In addition to retaining the existing AFSAT I capabilities, the upgrade will provide for limited terminal operation with the Navy's UHF follow-on satellite system. Titan Linkabit is producing the telegraph modem upgrades. Rockwell Collins produced the radio upgrades.
