VEHICLE SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS
In a manned aircraft the pilot has control of the GPS receiver. The C/S will provide the operator with the same level of control.
Since both the vehicle(s) and the C/S station may operate at various sites, the presence of differential GPS cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, it is felt that the C/S should host a differential GPS site to support the vehicles need for differential GPS.
The primary navigation sensor in the vehicle is an INS. In a manned aircraft the pilot has control of the INS. The C/S will provide the operator with the same level of control.
GPS will be used to keep the INS aligned and updated and both the INS and GPS outputs will be Kalman filtered for “system solution” for navigation.
Terrain Referenced Navigation (TRN) will also be an input into the system solution. The status of navigation will be displayed on the C/S. TRN will initially use a radar altimeter for terrain profiling. The other terrain data based function using the radar altimeter is the Auto Predictive Ground Collision Avoidance System (PGCAS).
The radar altimeter, in addition to use by TRN and PGCAS, will be used in landing and weapon delivery. RALT will be displayed on the C/S.
