CONTROL CONSOLE REQUIREMENTS - Continued
The console will contain two video monitors. It is anticipated that the vehicle will have at least one TV camera on top and bottom that is gimbaled, and several fixed (CCD?) cameras distributed around the aircraft such as in the weapons bay. Also, other video sources will be switched onto the console video monitors such as tower mounted cameras around the airfield or cameras in chase aircraft. Video switching and camera gimbal control will need to be incorporated into the G/S. The aircraft video is assumed to be analog broadcast video at first to keep the cost low. Digitizing and data linking video is an option, but is assumed to be more costly and risky. The C/S will need be architected to provide for easy growth. An open architecture, room for additional hardware, and commercial off the shelf equipment are desirable attributes for the C/S. Conceptual growth items will be used to evaluate the growth potential of any given design. Things such as Voice Recognition, Touch Screen Control, Virtual Reality Helmets, Ground Taxi Controls and Displays are some of the notional growth items. Additional items such as Green Flag Simulations are some other aggressive growth items to consider.
