1999 - Year of Generalised Popular Resistance
COMMUNIQUE NO. 12/CPM/99
Due to Eduardo dos Santos' persistence to pursue the war against the people of Angola, the Generalised Popular Resistance has carried out the following significant military operations in the period of 3rd to 4th May, 1999:
1. Province of Lunda Norte:
On May 3rd an MPLA troop carrying truck was ambushed and totally destroyed on the road between Kafunfu and Luzamba. This action resulted in the death of 22 troops of José Eduardo dos Santos' forces.
2. Province of Huambo:
On May 4th, around 18.00 hours, the municipality of Vila Nova situated 38km east of the city of Huambo was liberated. During this action 71 José Eduardo dos Santos' troops lost their lives. 1 T-62 tank and 2 BMP-2 assault vehicles were destroyed.
The following materials were captured:- 2 T-62 tanks, 1 T-55 tank, 4 BMP-2 assault vehicles, 1 BM-21 rocket launcher, 4 M-46 long range cannons, 2 D-30 cannons, 2 vehicles equipped with 23m/m anti-aircraft cannons and diverse quantities of light weapons, bombs and munitions.
3. Province of Uige
On May 4th the municipality of Bungo situated 39.5 kms east of the city of Uige was liberated.
During the action 41 troops of Eduardo dos Santos' forces lost their lives. 4 Kamaz military trucks and a very large quantity of lethal war material were captured.
In Summary: Eduardo dos Santos' forces suffered the following casualties:
(a) Human Casualties: 134 Troops dead
(b) War Material Destroyed:
1 T-62 Tank
2 BMP-2 Assault Vehicles
4 Kamaz Troop & Material Transport Trucks
(c) Captured War Material:
- 2 T-62 tanks
- 1 T-55 tank
- 4 BMP-2 Assault Vehicles
- 1 BM-21 Rocket Launcher
- 4 M-46 Long Range Cannons
- 2 D-30 Cannons
- 2 Vehicles equipped with 23m/m Cannons
- Large quantities of light arms, bombs and munitions of various calibers.
The Generalised Popular Resistance will continue with the destruction of the war machine of the war mongering Eduardo dos Santos until the total liberation of Angola is achieved.
