FAS Project on Intelligence Reform

New and improved sensors are providing large increases in the imagery that the Army Intelligence Analyst (IA) must process, exploit, disseminate and archives At the same time the number of IAs is decreasing. Aided Target Recognition (ATR) technology is being developed to overcome these problems by providing faster, more accurate target recognition. The Army Space Program Office [ASPO] Streaker initiative is an Aided Target Cueing tool optimized for use with U-2 radar imagery. Streaker provides locations of target detections in search imagery to alert the IA to specific areas of interest for re-imaging at a finer resolution.

Streaker development was completed in September 1997 at the ETRAC support laboratory with fielding decisions into the Army slated for November 1997. Streaker is at Northrop Grumman for integration into the ETRAC test bed for future testing.
