PAKISTAN MISSION TO THE

UNITED NATIONS, NEW YORK

PRESS RELEASE

Indian sponsored terrorist acts in Pakistan

The Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman, on 10 March 1998, said that the recent bomb blasts in Pakistan, which have taken a tragic toll in terms of the loss of lives of innocent civilians, are a part of a well orchestrated plan of terrorism. The latest replay of this abominable violence was in crowded passenger trains where sophisticated time devices were used. Dastardly acts of terrorism have also been carried out to ignite sectarian violence in Pakistan resulting in the killings of foreigners.

Conclusive evidence in the possession of the Government of Pakistan clearly points to the fact that these terrorist acts were masterminded and executed by the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) of the Indian intelligence, Pakistan continues to be the victim of state-sponsored terrorism.

The perpetration of these heinous crimes, who are obviously trying to divert attention from the collapse of a system spawned by successive weak governments, can never succeed in intimidating the government and the people of Pakistan or dilute their resolve to combat terrorism in all its forms. Such dastardly acts will only serve to vitiate the atmosphere in a region that is already tense and volatile. It is our hope that India will desist from sponsoring terrorism which has inflicted great suffering on innocent and unsuspecting civilians.
