The Air Force Association announced that the members of the 488th Intelligence Squadron earned one of its highest awards - the Citation of Honor.

The award, given out annually by the AFA, is presented to the outstanding Air Force unit that has made unsurpassed contributions to national defense.

The unit’s contributions included outstanding performance while providing worldwide strategic and contingency intelligence operations.

“Last year, we deployed more than 15,000 man-days to three areas of responsibility for our RC-135 Rivet Joint mission and provided support to special operation aircrews,” said Lt. Col. James Poss, 488th IS commander.

In addition, their products proved critical to European and national level consumers during the ALLIDED FORCE in the Balkans, contributing significantly to the NATO’s most impressive air victory to date.

“This means a tremendous amount to the 488th. I can’t recall the AFA ever giving a Citation of Honor to an intelligence unit. It’s high recognition for sacrifices the 488th made in the skies over the Balkans, Southwest Asia and Turkey,” said Poss.
