Ms. Sharon Staley, chief of the Infrared Branch, Measurement and Signatures Intelligence Exploitation Division, directorate of Data Exploitation, National Air Intelligence Center, was selected as the 1999 Local Manager of the Year by the Van Kuren Chapter of the National Management Association.

Staley manages 43 people in one of NAIC’s fastest growing disciplines, MASINT. During her tenure as branch chief, Stales has repeatedly demonstrated classic management characteristics that all but guarantee mission success: technical proficiency, delegation of authority, outstanding communication skills and exemplary work ethic. Under her guidance, teams of junior engineers have taken three major sensor programs from the research and development phase to fully operational.

Staley’s heartfelt concern for those around her extends beyond the workplace. She has held high-level positions in her church, adult bowling leagues and the Huber Heights Soccer Association, as well as actively participating in the Dayton area Special Wish Foundation. Active involvement in her community and a genuine interest in the concerns and joys of co-workers have endeared Staley to her subordinates.

Her leadership attributes and management style set a high standard of excellence as she provided inspiration to those who work with her.

NMA is a non-profit, non-political professional education society that has a major emphasis on educational programs to supplement training provided by employers. Charles Kettering founded NMA in 1925 in Dayton, Ohio, which is still the site of the organization’s national headquarters.
